Hope Island

Apr 7, 2012

We're finally going to paddle Hope Island!  I've been waiting for this paddle for a while now since everyone says it is definitely a must do for kayakers.  It's especially interesting since the only way you can visit the island is by boat which means less crowds - or that's the theory anyway.

We launched from Shelton Walker Park.  Not sure if you can find a longer haul to the water.  It's a workout even before you get into the boat.  Parking is tight.  Turns out everyone had the same idea to head out to Hope Island today.  There are three kayaking paddle clubs here.  Because not everyone goes to all the paddles, we see people joing our group thinking it's their club. You're welcome to paddle with us but your group is over there.

Another gorgeous sunny day in the Pacific Northwest as we head towards the island.  Tide is timed perfectly and we have an easy paddle ahead of us.
                                          We made it!

                                           Lunch time

Waiting for the tide to turn

That's me.  Can't get any better than this can it?

Look at all the pretty kayaks.  How many can you count?

Had some time to explore the island

There's a bunch of these really cool old pieces of machinery on the property

Thank you for the hospitality Hope Island!  We'll be back!
